The concept of true green printing and sustained profitability is catching on. In Melbourne’s suburb of South Oakleigh, Print Bound is winning awards as well as customers for its total commitment to iso14001 environmental principles. Helped by the installation of a Heidelberg cd 102-6 “The world’s greenest offset press” PRINT BOUND, is striding ahead.
As the printing industry moves to adopt a ‘greener’ attitude towards print production, printers are looking for solutions that will assist in addressing environmental concerns and at the same time enable them to remain competitive. One printer who has found what appears to be a perfect balance is Melbourne’s Print Bound.
Committed to working in the most environmentally responsible way possible, managing director, Mauro Mattarucco discusses his company’s philosophy on green print.
“The best way to describe our core business is commercial colour printing with an environmental offering. We work with a broad range of customers, however, we are beginning to gain more work from those corporates, government departments and utilities who have environmental objectives and are looking for a green printer.”
With a mission to be leaders in print communication with respect and care for the environment, the company is committed to minimising the environmental impact of its business operation.
GUIDED BY ISO 14001
Documented and maintained by the company’s ISO 14001 environmental certifi cation, Print Bound’s environmental management system is integral to daily operations. “Our ultimate desire is the prevention of pollution;” a professional and personal objective for Mattarucco and his business partner, Mark Tomasini. “The broader view of the printing industry is that it is not particularly environmentally ’friendly.’ We are committed to changing that perception. The only way we can do that is to create a culture of environmental awareness amongst our employees, clients and suppliers through education and practical reinforcement.”
“Environmental sustainability should not be exclusive. You can print green and be profi table,” he says emphatically.
Print Bound has chosen to work with Heidelberg equipment across its operation from the Trendsetter CtP solution in prepress, to its presses, including the company’s new CD102-6 colour and a Speedmaster 74-5 colour with perfector, through to the bindery which operates Polar cutting equipment and Stahl folders.
The company’s environmental philosophy sits closely with Heidelberg’s own corporate goals. Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG is also certified to ISO 14001 and reports annually on its environmental sustainability, so it’s no surprise Heidelberg Australia and New Zealand (HAN) put its hand up as a sponsor of Print Bound’s green-site project when it was fi rst mooted. “We were extremely pleased to support Print Bound in its efforts to create a green print environment,” says Alastair Hadley, general manager—sales and company director, who championed the project within HAN.
